SMA® Althera®is an extensively hydrolysed (eHF) hypoallergenic infant formula that provides first-line relief from the symptoms associated with mild-moderate cows' milk protein allergy (CMA) and/or multiple food protein allergies. SMA® Althéra® is nutritionally complete and contains lactose to support growth and development. With its very low allergenic profile and preferred taste over casein-based eHFs, it is designed to support increased acceptability and tolerance in the majority of babies with CMA. Free from soy.
Althéra provides first-line relief from the symptoms associated with cow's milk protein allergy, ie: eczema, colic, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation. Suitable from birth onwards, Althéra's taste and palatability make it easier to use for the long-term management of cow's milk protein allergy.
SMA Althéra Infant Milk is for complete nutritional support from birth or supplementary feeding from 6 months and up to 3 years of age for the dietary management of cows‘ milk allergy and/or multiple food protein allergies.

Common/Minor side effects (usually temporary):
Gassiness or bloating as the digestive system adjusts to the formula.
Mild constipation or looser stools, which can occur when switching from one formula to another.
Skin reactions (such as a mild rash or eczema), especially if there is a sensitivity to any ingredient in the formula.
Less common side effects (contact healthcare provider if severe):
Severe allergic reactions, though rare, including:
Swelling of the lips, tongue, or face.
Difficulty breathing.
Severe rash or hives.
Vomiting or diarrhea, which may indicate the baby is not tolerating the formula well.
Use under medical supervision:
SMA Althera is designed for babies with cow's milk allergy and should be used only on the advice of a healthcare professional.
Not suitable for infants with galactosemia:
This product contains lactose and should not be used for infants with galactosemia (a rare genetic disorder affecting the metabolism of galactose).
Only for babies with a diagnosed milk allergy:
Do not use SMA Althera for general infant feeding without proper diagnosis and advice from a healthcare provider.
Feeding hygiene:
Prepare and handle the formula according to strict hygiene standards.
Always wash hands before preparation, sterilize bottles and nipples, and follow the correct preparation instructions to avoid contamination.
Do not over-concentrate the formula:
Always follow the correct mixing ratios. Over-concentrating formula may cause feeding problems and dehydration.
Store properly:
Store the tin in a cool, dry place, and once opened, use within 4 weeks.
After feeding, any leftover milk should be discarded to prevent bacterial growth.
